so for those that werent there last week, i was approached by a richmond parks and rec offical. who knew that my name is richard and said that we are no longer allowed to use any nichol of the fine is $250 per person. he also said that applies to the soccer players as well. he did mention that most high schools have fields and do not enforce the permit rule as much. so we need to find another home again.

my thoughts are kennedy for next week with king as a backup

but we should alll start thinking about fields again, i personally like king and i was under the impression that when we got kicked off it was a isolated incident and not something to be overly concerned about

The issue with King was that the Albany little league was starting up, and we were advised, for our own sake, that King gets used a lot.

But, for now, that's an excellent plan.

no peter what the coach said was "we needed a little extra practice, and we got a permit. but we normally dont practice here" so yes there is a slight chance that they might show up but its not like the field is in use every sunday and we havent gotten told by parks and rec to get the fuck off the field.

They did say that... as well. But I talked with them as well.

No, that other teams often use that field. That team doesn't always use it, but his advice was that we should look elsewhere.

Look, I don't care if we take his advice or not. But I think it makes sense to avoid using it until we need to for lack of other options.

What about Flood? If we're going to get kicked off of a field, why not have it be one we like playing on?

Okay, so I should have said this first.

WOAH!

Does that fine apply to Kennedy as well as well?

And peter, I misread your previous post as saying "an excellent pain" which I thought couldn't be closer to the truth.

i think getting to use Kennedy may be a matter of getting there early to encourage the soccer players to play on the giant open softball field 50 yards away instead of setting up in the middle of the field that we need for our game.

I would be willing to do this, assuming that someone would come with me. King is probably our only other option.

Kennedy is in Richmond, which puts us at the same risk (thanks for mentioning that, Nick).

Also, Kennedy is a crap of a field (ok, I know the one you can play on is the best one, but still...)

Left field is way too big and the left side of the infield was covered in crab grass or something. It's not good.

Also, the problem I realized for the soccer players at Kennedy was moving the goals. I'm not sure how they would move that over to the softball field.

What did the Frisbee players say? What time do they get there? is it weekly? Do we know if they have other options (i.e. the Kennedy softball field)?

At this point, I am inclined to try a field in Alameda, despite my previous misgivings. either that, or we go back to vista if we can get around the Frisbee players.

Kennedy is not a part of Richmond Parks & Rec so the same rules don't (necessarily) apply

What a tired fucking subject, huh?!!!! I guess that's the cost of being a homeless baseball league unwilling to pay formal league fees.

All right, here's what I'm going to do. We really need someone to dedicate a Sunday to driving around to many potential fields (around 12-1) to gauge their availability.

I can't do that this Sunday, but I will the following Sunday (July 5th).

I'm going to drive around and check the following fields: King (aka Rose), Posen & Monterey (near King), Vista (El Cerrito), Golden Gate (62nd & san pablo ave), Oregon & Park (near san pablo ave), park blvd & MacArthur blvd, Lincoln Park (alameda), Upper Washington Park (alameda).

Feel free to mention fields you think I should look into on Sunday July 5th.

I know some of the above fields have drawbacks, but I'm sure we'll all agree that the best field is the one we can reliably play on. So, from now on, we'll alternate between DeFremery and Poplar (just kidding).

Considering the soccer player conflict (etc), I'll set up this Sunday's game at Golden Gate. It has worked for us before (despite smaller infield size), and I think the RF-dampness issue is not a problem anymore. Even if it is, we can survive one Sunday there. I feel the need to act on this Sunday's game ASAP (craigslist post, etc) so we can have our best shot at turnout, so if the Golden Gate band-aid for this Sunday is outrageous, I need to know asap.

Any new players need to give me their email so I can continue to develop the email list. This is crucial for consistent turnout. So, if you are there on Sundays, please solicit email addresses from all new players, and make sure that information gets to me.

EDIT: Nick said "what about Flood"? I think Flood's extremely questionable, considering it was actual bacon that kicked us off, not some little league person. What's up with Homer vis-a-vis Flood?

EDIT: Antmo's post in the other thread should be noted here: "Upper Washington (SJND)- LF is only 245 feet with a tall fence like Deferemery... My very first high school at bat (first pitch) against SJND was a homer over that fence (I got scolded because I was given a "take" sign)... so I doubt it could hold us grown folks. Also parking is atrocious and those waiting to play softball on the lower fields often practice on the upper field. Washington Park is probably the most crowded, most used park in the greater Oakland eastbay. Krusi is a 4 way field not suitable for us. (remember Rob... that's where they play softball). When I use to play softball with Rob, the one field I always found open is Tillman Park on Bay Farm Island. The # 50 bus does travel there from both Fruitvale BART and Coliseum BART. It may seem daunting to get to but it really isnt. Also Godfrey Park in Alameda is big... but I don't know the availability. I've always wondered what's wrong with Franklin Field at 11th and Foothill ? The outfield is no worse if not better than King is for sure. Also Oakland High (Park and MacArthur) is NEVER in use on Sundays- accessible and new. The outfield is turf however. I also wonder if Carter Field (Tech's new field) 45th and Tele. is open on Sundays. Times change, but as a kid we used to also play on the weekends at Piedmont High."

incorrect. Plaza Park is the small grass area just to the east of the sports complex.

Posen & Monterey (near King)

That is St. Mary's HS. I'm 99% sure that field is locked up tight.

San Pablo Park may be usable, but is not ideal because it is frequently used by picnickers, soccer players and the like and I would be not at all surprised to find league games there on Sundays.

Worth a drive-by from Scott around 12pm?
